Atlanta RMA Chapter President
John Frierson, CRC, Synovus Financial Corporation
John Frierson is a Senior Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager for Synovus Bank in the Corporate Banking Group and is based out of Atlanta. He began his banking career with AmSouth Bank in 2000 as a Management Associate in Birmingham. In 2005, John made the move to a Synovus affiliate in northwest Florida, and in 2011, he was asked to help build the bank’s corporate banking group. Since his arrival, the bank has quadrupled the staff in the department and has built a portfolio of over $2Bn in commitments.
John received a Masters in business administration from Emory University with a concentration in finance and management, where he was Beta Gamma Sigma inductee. John is an honors graduate of the University of Mississippi with a BBA in finance.
John is an active member of the Association of Corporate Growth and the Risk Management Association. He has also served as a board member for various charities and fundraisers and is currently on the board for the Georgia Tennis Foundation.
Earnest J. Wilks, Regions Bank
Earnest Wilks is Vice President and Commercial Debt Products Manager for Regions Bank. He has 16 years in the banking industry of which he has been with Regions Bank (formerly AmSouth) for the past 13 years. He has held risk management roles in various areas to include Consumer Banking, Business & Community Banking, Special Assets, and Commercial Banking.
Earnest moved from Birmingham, AL to Atlanta, GA in 2013 to take a position as an Area Credit Portfolio Advisor for Business & Community Banking covering Georgia and South Carolina. He transitioned to the Georgia Commercial Banking Group in 2015 where he now serves as an Area Commercial Debt Products Manager. In his current role he is a customer facing Credit Partner that works with Middle Market size companies in Georgia. His duties include the structuring and delivery of commercial credit. He also serves as a local commercial credit advisor in the market.
Earnest holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Montevallo and a MBA from Troy University. He also obtained the RMA Credit Risk Certification in 2015.
Matt Hammond, CRC, SunTrust
Matt has over 17 years of banking experience, including sales and credit roles across multiple lines of business including small business banking, private wealth, commercial, and commercial real estate. In addition to his front line experience, other past duties include supporting SunTrust’s annual CCAR stress testing exercise as well as building and managing a centralized wholesale credit support unit. He currently serves as an operational risk manager for SunTrust’s wholesale banking segment. Matt has a BA in business administration from Furman University and an MBA in global business from Georgia Tech. He is married to Theresa, who also works for SunTrust Bank as an attorney.
Melanie Silvestri, First Landmark Bank
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2003, Melanie moved to Atlanta and began her banking career. Melanie has been Regional Credit Officer of First Landmark Bank since its merger with Midtown Bank in October 2014. Prior to the merger, she had been with Midtown Bank since October 2009. She has been the RMA Treasurer since September 2013. In addition to her role at First Landmark Bank, she is also a Board member of Rabun County Bank. She completed the Graduate School of Banking at LSU in June 2016. She resides in Old 4th Ward with her husband and two cats.
Lissette Rivera-Pauley, CRC, Key Bank
Lissette Rivera-Pauley is a Senior Vice President and Regional Portfolio Manager at Key Bank. Mrs. Rivera-Pauley has over 20 years of experience in both Banking and Accounting and has worked in a variety of roles including Asset Based Lending, Commercial Real Estate, C&I and Financial Reporting. Most recently she spent 7 years at Bank of America as a SVP, Senior Credit Products Officer in the Commercial Real Estate Group; her prior positions have been held at Barnett Bank, Wachovia, SouthTrust, SunTrust,and EverBank.
Mrs. Rivera-Pauley holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Florida, an MBA in Finance with dual concentrations in Finance and Operations Management from Rollins College, and a Master’s in Accounting from the University of Connecticut.
Mrs. Rivera-Pauley has been actively involved in RMA for over 14 years and currently serves on the National RMA Accounting Committee. Additionally, she has served at the National Level; on the Members’ Council; on the Steering Committee; and was the Chair of the 2011 Chapter’s Leaders Conference held in Atlanta, GA. Additionally Mrs. Rivera-Pauley has served on the local chapter level as the Atlanta Chapter President 2009-2011 and 2014-2015. Ms. Rivera-Pauley is fluent in Spanish and is Credit Risk Certified. She lives in Mableton, GA with her husband and two boys.

Joe Pegnia, GGG Partners, LLC
Joe Pegnia is the Past President of the Atlanta Chapter and a Shareholder of GGG Partners, LLC. He has over twenty years of experience managing and acting as an advisor to managers of distressed companies and their stakeholders and as a lender.
Prior to joining GGG Partners, Joe was a Managing Director in FTI Consulting's restructuring practice. While there, he was involved in many complex multi-national restructurings including Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc., and AbitibiBowater. Prior to his work as a turnaround manager Joe was an asset based lender at Wachovia Bank (now a part of Wells Fargo) and The Fifth Third Bank.
Sherri Lathan, Fidelity Bank
Sherri Lathan, is a 30 year banking veteran and is Vice President in Commercial Lending Department at Fidelity Bank in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Lathan’s banking career has included management of retail banking, risk assessment/credit administration and commercial lending. She is a native of Ohio and holds a degree in Economics from Spelman College.
Ms. Lathan is actively involved in several civic, social, and professional organizations including the Atlanta Chapter of the Risk Management Association (RMA). She has been an associate member for several years, a member of its Board of Directors since 2012 and has both served and chaired the Education Committee. She initially joined RMA to enhance her credit risk skills with their seminars but continues to participate because the organization offers an exchange of information with RMA Xchange, updates on industry and regulatory from experts, and networking opportunities.
Lynn Miller, PayNet
Lynn Miller is Banking Sales Director of PayNet, Inc. the premier provider of state-of-the art analytical tools and relevant information to improve the underwriting and management of small business loans/leases. PayNet creates information tools from its proprietary database of small-business loan/lease performance – this data is collected, processed, and analyzed by PayNet to deliver objective, fact-based knowledge of small-business loan and leases both individually and as an asset class. The combination of this unique data with cutting-edge analytics and lender expertise results in world-class information tools that create high return-on-investment solutions for small business lenders.
As Banking Sales Director for PayNet, Lynn is responsible for the management of bank relationships and developing new bank clients. Lynn delivers transparency to Bank’s Commercial Loan Portfolios, allowing them to manage their loan originations and portfolio performance. During her tenure she has been responsible for developing and maintaining a wide variety of PayNet’s bank relationships. Lynn joined PayNet in 2006.
Lynn has been in the financial industry for over 19 years working for companies such as GE and HSBC. She successfully led a Quality Compliance program significantly reducing regulatory compliance costs. Lynn profitably managed credit card portfolios in the millions. She is a certified Toastmaster.
Lynn received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the Northern Illinois University.

Kerry Borders, GLE Associates
Kerry has been a member of RMA since 2012, and is the Director of Atlanta Operations for GLE Associates, Inc., an engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting firm. Ms. Borders has served as GLE’s Director of Atlanta Operations for 8 years, and has 18 years of experience in the environmental consulting services field. Kerry’s area of expertise includes a diverse background in due diligence and environmental risk. Kerry attended Florida State University and received her BA from Auburn University. In addition to the Atlanta RMA Chapter, Kerry is an active member of the Atlanta Post of the Society of American Military Engineers, and Environmental Bankers Association, and a part-time foster for Atlanta Adopt a Golden in her spare time.
Vickie Gilchrist, United Community Bank
Vickie has 35 years plus years of experience in Banking. Her previous bank experience includes C&S National Bank, Barnett Bank, and Bank of America. Vickie is currently with United Community Bank based out of Blairsville, Georgia. Early in her banking career, she completed the management and credit training program at C&S National Bank. Other roles have included commercial lending in specialty areas, Senior Credit Officer, Commercial Credit Center Management to include portfolio management and loan operations, Commercial Credit Training, Commercial Credit Process Project work, Credit Administration Management, and Loan Review Manager. Vickie is currently, working with the Risk Management organization of UCB as the Loan Review and Credit Risk Manager.
Kristina L. (Kris) Anderson, Fifth Third Bank
Kris Anderson joined the RMA Atlanta board in 2015 and brought over 25 years of diverse finance and banking experience with an expertise in large commercial credit and debt restructuring to the chapter. Kris is currently with Fifth Third Bank, serving as Chief Administrative Officer of the Capital Markets division. Prior to joining Fifth Third in 2015, Kris was a Managing Director with AloStar Bank where she led a business unit responsible for the resolution of a $380 million portfolio of troubled assets acquired from a failed community bank under a Shared-Loss Agreement with the FDIC. Kris spent two years with Carl Marks Advisory Group prior to joining AloStar, where she served as Managing Director in the Investment Banking division advising middle market companies and commercial banks in complex balance sheet restructuring transactions.
Kris previously spent 19 years with SunTrust Bank, ultimately progressing to Senior Vice President and Manager of the Corporate Special Assets Group where she managed a team responsible for the resolution of SunTrust’s largest and most complex problem credit exposures.
Kris currently resides in Atlanta and has lived in Orlando, Florida and Middletown, Connecticut after leaving her hometown in the west suburbs of Chicago. She graduated with honors with a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Doug Mims, CPA and Partner with Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC
Financial Institutions Partner
Doug serves as the financial institution service line leader for the Greater Atlanta area and the State of Georgia. He has over 25 years experience (10 years with PwC) providing primarily internal and external audit services to both private and publicly held financial institutions ranging from De nov status to regional bank holding companies. He also has extensive experience dealing with various regulatory agencies and advising clients relative to M&A activities and due diligence.
Doug has made numerous presentations to industry related groups and published several industry related articles in trade magazines. He attends the AICPA National Conference on Banks & Savings Institutions annually and develops and leads industry line training efforts within CRI. Most recently, Doug attended the Institute of Internal Auditors Financial Service Exchange.
